Project
Known as the Western Plains Correctional Centre, Caruso Bricklaying collaborated with John Holland to oversee the masonry aspect of this project, which encompassed intricate brickwork and blockwork designs across the facility. Designed to accommodate 1,248 prisoners, the correctional centre also features health, education, and recreational facilities.
The Western Plains Correctional Centre marked the first prison to be accredited under the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) rating scheme. Caruso Bricklaying not only met but exceeded all project requirements, achieving milestones such as 17% MPSG labour hours (Major Project Skills Guarantee), 3% social procurement spend, 5% participation from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, 15.1% hours allocated to disadvantaged Victorians, and 1.8% disability participation. Furthermore, all labour employed on the project consisted of 100% Victorian content.
